Parent Involvement Opportunities

Plano Council of PTA's named the Barksdale PTA the “Best PTA in Plano” (1998-1999). Other honors include: "Outstanding Parent Involvement Program” award from the Texas PTA and the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (1999); State PTA award for "Best Parenting Program" (2003, 2005-06); Highest Honors in Area 10 for PTA directory (2005-2006); Highest Honors in Area 10 for PTA Web site, advancing to the State competition; and Overall High Honors from the Plano Council of PTA's. The Barksdale PTA provides volunteer and financial support for our instructional programs, including: educational trips, parent education, materials, and supplies. 100% of Barksdale staff members are members of PTA. Other parent opportunities include volunteers for our: School-Based Improvement Committee (SBIC); Key Communicators; and volunteers for library, office, YO packet, field day, school carnival, publishing center, classrooms, practical parenting workshops, yearbook, special projects (Texas Day, cultural arts, book fair, etc.), landscape beautification, shoebox science, book fair (pajama party), and study buddies (tutoring program).
